The Inside Story of the Fine Swiss Watch
Part Four
The Escapement is the Heart of Your Watch. The tiny tick you hear is made by this constantly beating heart. Over 400 thousand times a day, the jewels on the lever strike the teeth of the escape wheel - allowing it to measure exactly 1/5 of a second. In every fine Swiss watch, these jewels are first cut and polished with microscopic accuracy, then patiently set by master craftsmen in the one exact position that guarantees maximum accuracy.
