                          How to spot a FAKE

Rolexes have a crystal with a magnification bubble over the date.  A real Rolex has a 2.5 times magnification, while a fake has only 1.5 times.  Some newer, however, have been known to have larger magnification. rolex-flake1.JPG (47213 bytes)
A genuine Rolex may also appear fake if its original crystal has been changed to an aftermarket one.

Rolex has never made a watch with a clear back, so as to expose the inside of the watch.  A clear back, is a definite sign in spotting a fake. rolex-flake2.JPG (52213 bytes)

Other things to look for:

One way of identifying a fake is by the engraving on the back.  Rolex, with the exception of some (Ladies models and gents vintage models and the Sea-Dweller) does not engrave the back of the cases.  Some do have hologram stickers on the back, but no engraving on new models.

On most imitations, when the stem is pulled out, the second hand continues to move. This all so happens on vintage models Rolexes.

There are fakes that are exceptions to the rules; some even come in 18k gold.  The best thing to do is to buy from someone you can trust.
